Not much is known about Elizabeth Lee Allen Smith. She was the daughter of Dr. W. Allen, president of Dartmouth University. In 1843 she married Dr. H. H. Smith, who was a professor at the Union Theological Seminary in New York. She translated the hymn "I Greet Thee Who My Sure Redeemer Art" in 1868
