E. Margaret Clarkson grew up in Toronto, Canada. She worked as an elementary school teacher for thirty-eight years in Ontario, and also served as the Music Supervisor of six large schools for six years. She was a prolific writer, publishing hundreds of poems, articles, songs, and sketches, and also writing seventeen books.
Clarkson loved hymn writing, and she wrote her hymns from a lifetime of Bible study and personal Christian experience. Her hymns have been published in A Singing Heart, published by Hope Publishing Company in 1987.
Sharing her hymn-writing expertise, Clarkson has taught courses in Christian Hymnody at Regent College in Vancouver. Her contribution to hymnody has also been acknowledged by The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada: They named her as a Fellow of the Society at their 1992 national convention.
