The English translator for "Silent Night, Holy Night" not known. Some report that stanzas 1 and 3 were translated by John Freeman Young (1820-1885), a Protestant Episcopal minister who served in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and New York and the second bishop of Florida. He published Hymns and Music for the Young (1860-61) and he was editor of Great Hymns of the Church, which was published posthumously in 1887 by John H. Hopkins. Others mention Jane Campbell as a possible translator. Still others list translator "unknown".
