The hymn tune CRIMOND, to which we sing "The Lord's My Shepherd, first appeared in the Northern Psalter of 1872, set to the hymn "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." At that time it was credited to David Grant, an Aberdeen businessman and amateur musician. However Jessie Irvine's sister, Anna, claimed that Jessie had composed the tune and simply sent it to Grant to be harmonized. The 1929 Scottish Psalter attributes the tune to Irvine and that has generally been accepted since. It is named for the village of Crimond in Aberdeenshire.
