Stretching the Voice"Legato Singing"It Is Well With My Soul
As you expand your focus on the above hymns, you will want to work on many different kinds of hymns. Fast moving hymns with large skips will be more difficult than slow moving hymns with smaller skips.
As we mentioned during the rehearsal last week, you start with "ah" or "oh" and make sure that you are singing with a beautiful legato connection (or line). Then you make the switch to words and attempt to match the legato of the "ah" vowel.
Speed again is important. If you sing too fast you will find success elusive. But if you start slow and thenn gradually increase your speed, while maintaining legato consistency, your success will increase immeasurably.
The key is to sing every day--and make sure that you sing strongly and connect one word to another.
